Thanks to Cyndi Coury for the following:

Memorial Day/Whit Monday at Coral Beach

The trade winds that buffeted the island for the last two weeks of May couldn’t diminish the enthusiasm for a Memorial Day/Whit Monday potluck cook out by the pool. The feast included an array of appetizers, roasted pork loin with three pepper papaya chutney, Melanzane Parmigiano ala Patrizia, baked pasta with parmesan, marinated shrimp, green salad, black beans & rice, spaghetti Bolognese, coconut macaroons, coconut and pineapple tarts and other delicacies. Kudos to Cyndi & Mike Coury, Dianne Patterson, Pat and Phil Galiano for organizing the event. Attendees included Beth and Mike Stengel, Vera & Harry Smith, Tino and Angela Barca, the Diliberto clan, Kathy Sanzota, Bjorn Eustrom, Carol Traviglia, Nancy & Dan Coury and Brian Costello. It sure was nice to have the new gas grill to cook on!

Tile work on the ground floor of Building 1 has been completed and looks terrific. While it may not be in the budget at the moment, it would be nice to see tile put in the upper floors eventually. Construction on the new owner’s storage closets in Building 1 was also proceeding on a fast pace. Get your name on the storage closet list if you want to get in line for one of the new closets. They will be placed on the ground floors in all 3 buildings.

On the pool bar front, the good news is that Coral Beach has recovered possession of the building and is already beginning renovations of the seating area. The bar and seating area will be redesigned with the goal of increasing seating, including adding seating that will face the ocean. No word on yet on when this will be completed but it is anticipated that it will be up and running well before next winter’s season. In the interim, it would be nice if the BOD would put the wooden picnic tables back in their place so owners and guests could enjoy that additional seating again. Also no word on the selection of a new pool bar operator. Hopefully, word from the BOD on this issue will be forthcoming. Also no word on whether the Blackbeard name will be retained. Perhaps an owners’ “Name the Beach Bar” contest would be a good way to generate enthusiasm for the renovations and anticipated reopening of the beach bar!

The final audited financials for the year ending June 30, 2006 were delivered to the BOD around the first of June by the auditors. An email received from Jennifer and the BOD yesterday indicates they are in the process of distributing them to us.

Tropical Storm Barry pelted the island with heavy rain and 40 plus mile per hour winds on June 1 -2. The rain was badly needed on the island as well as in Florida, which was more directly in the storm’s path. Some minor leaking occurred at CB but nothing that the staff and owners in residence could not deal with.
